The glass is half full
Winter rain and snow is making an impact on Arkansas’ drought situation. Between the last week of January and the Feb. 5 map, “extreme drought” dropped off the map. The percentage of the state with any drought rating has edged toward 50 percent, dropping from 74.9 percent a month ago.
Row crop producers in the Arkansas Delta are reporting their irrigation ponds being refilled. However, there is a flip side. Last year, in southern Arkansas, corn planting began in late February. At the moment, fields are too muddy to try planting.
