Fall foliage in doubt?

What does the prolonged drought mean for fall foliage?  A drab fall could have serious implications for the tourism industry in Arkansas.  Some reports are already suggesting that drought conditions will dull or even shut down our usual riot of autumn colors.  Sure enough, during the late summer months, trees throughout the state were shedding leaves at a disturbing rate.  However, Bob Byers with Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas, hopes that recent rains were timely enough to keep the more colorful trees from kicking into early dormancy.  “As most of these species begin their fall displays in the early to mid part of the fall foliage season, we’re still expecting reasonably good fall color in the early part of the season.”  Read more and get updates on fall foliage in AR …
