Is the end near?

We’ve had substantial rainfall in Arkansas the last 2 weekends and we are supposed to see more this weekend.  Is the drought over?  NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center expects El Nino to kick in this month.  Is that what’s going on?  We all know that El Nino is typically associated with wet winters over the Southeast.  Does this mean the drought in Arkansas is ending?

Probably not.  The CPC suggests that although we are going to see some improvement in drought conditions in Arkansas, the drought will persist at least through the end of the year.   So what is going on?  For one thing, the experts are only predicting only a weak to moderate El Nino this fall.  See what else the experts are saying about this fall and early winter …
