New Efforts to Assist Farmers Affected by Drought

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced new efforts to assist farmers and ranchers affected by what may be the most wide-spread drought the United States has seen in seven decades.  Vilsack is allowing and encouraging flexibility in three major USDA conservation programs: the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), and the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).  Because many farm families may be struggling and have cash flow problems in the fall, he is also encouraging more flexibility in the Federal Crop Insurance Program.  READ MORE …
